West of England U16 Championship

On Sunday 24th September, 60 of the best U16 golfers in the Country took to the brilliantly presented Forest Hills GC to battle it out for The Ken Newman Salver and the title of West of England U16 Champion. The weather would prove to be a factor for most of the day with both wind and rain playing a part.

Cole Self (Ringway) led the way after the mornings play with a very credible Level par 72. Two strokes back after a 74 was Maxi Moore (Hillside). A few others were in touching distance which left it all to play for with just 18 holes left to play.  With the weather still playing it would be a tough afternoon.

The afternoon was again a good test, but it was Jack Swift (North Foreland) who marched through the field with a best of the day 70 to add to his mornings scores of 77 to leave him on 147. A truly great score on a difficult course in equally difficult conditions. This would prove to be good enough to secure the title by a single shot from Cole Self who added a 76 to his mornings 72 to leave him on 148. Huge congratulations to Jack who picked up the Ken Newman Salver!

In third place on 151 was Aaron Moody (Burhill). Ted Ballard (Sherdons) was was 4th after firing 153 and a further shot back in 5th place on 154 was Thomas Prescott (West Lancashire).

Our thanks go to all at Forest Hills GC for their hospitality and for presenting the golf course fit for an event of this level. The GGU Lead Referee, Adrian Lee, made special mention to thank the Players for their patience and assistance with the referees to ensure the event ran as smoothly as it did. We hope to see those eligible to play again next year and our final thanks go to all the Parents/Carers who travelled the length of the Country to enable the Players to take part.
