Congratulations to our U14 Team V Worcestershire

After the last couple of weeks weather the lads could have been forgiven for thinking we’d put the swimming pool near the first for our Dr Golf pre round warm up but a cooler and cloudy day greeted us for an away match against Worcestershire at Little Lakes GC

As the hosts Worcestershire had set us up for 5 fourball better ball matches with captain Ambrose Eaves partnering Riley Wood through the narrow opening tee shot. Despite some wedgeworld prowess on the par 5 second the boys were down early and had a fight on their hands. The on form Charlie Pearce Ward and Will Gregory were up next splitting the first and Will then taking a chance going for the second to get into an early lead. The chattiest group in golf in Daniel Prashad and Charlie Ford, kept the tactics tight through the tricky 3rd and 4th to keep themselves on the Worcs coattails while Jack Lockwood and James Sutherland had their work cut out with a much longer Worcs counterpart but a driver over the trees on the tough 3rd showed they played their own game. Making up the final group Luis Brain and Luke Flexman were making their full debuts and showed no nerves getting 4 up after 6

Little Lakes narrow undulating layout kept things tight with Luis and Luke being brought back to one up and being little in the other matches until Charlie and Will made a breakthough despite a miscued tee shot taking their match 5 and 4 on the exacting 14th. While Ambrose and Riley fought on giving shots through the back 9 a birdie attempt came up just shy on 18 to earn a half while after never being up Daniel and Charlie took 18 to gain a further half

The aforementioned 14th with its tricky tee shot over a mound to a green through a small wood to a green tucked into the slope proved vital with Jack hitting all he had in his approach to get a half while Luis made the best of a big tee shot to win a vital hole. A brave approach with a tidy finish on the par 5 16th  got Luke and Luis their first scalp 3 and 2 just leaving Jack and James on 17th tee 2 up. However a great birdie from Worcs meant it all came down 18 where a big tee shot from the Worcs player put us under pressure with Jack responding by hitting his approach to around 10 feet and taking the last to finish 2 up meaning we took the match 4 -1 with all the players unbeaten on the day

Big thanks to Roger and Stuart from Worcestershire and the boys for putting on such a good match played in a great spirit and to Little Lakes for providing an ideal venue and great hospitality

With a little break from matches for now focus turns to  our second major The GGU U18 champs at Bristol and Clifton GC on Sun 26th June
