Boys Championship

It was a cold and windy June morning at Bristol & Clifton GC as the 2022 Boys Championship commenced. 50 of the Counties juniors from a wide variety of clubs took part. There were rain showers throughout the morning and combined with the stiff wind it made for a difficult morning.

After the mornings play Louis Ross (Long Ashton) lead the way with 70, which in the conditions was a very good score. Just 2 behind on 72 was Milan Reed (Long Ashton) and a further stroke back on 73 was Enzo Cryer (Bristol & Clifton). Ben John (Cotswold Hills) lead the net with a fine 68 and 2 behind on 70 were the duo of Jack Lockwood (Bristol & Clifton) and Daniel Prashad (Minchinhampton). Both the net and gross events were finely poised heading into the afternoon. With an improvement in the weather conditions it looked as though the scoring would improve.

Louis Ross added a 75 to his mornings round of 70 to leave him on 145 (+5). Finn Ellis came through the field with a very impressive 71 to add to his morning score of 74 to leave him on 145 but pipping Louis Ross to second place. The winner and he's no stranger to winning this event was Milan Reed (Long Ashton) who added a 71 to his mornings score of 72 to leave him on 143 (+3) which saw him crowned Gloucestershire Boys Champion for 2022! Milan will go on to represent Gloucestershire in the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa GC in September. All at the GGU wish Milan the very best of luck in the event.

Finn Ellis's scores were good enough to secure the U17 Championship by 6 shots ahead of Toby Janes (The Kendleshire). Well done Finn!

The Net competition was won by Ben John who carded another fine 68 to give him a total of 136 which was good enough to secure victory by 8 strokes over Ted Ballard (Forest Hills) who's 36 hole total was 144. Back in third and also on 144 was Oliver Christopher (Forest Hills).

Our thanks go to all at Bristol & Clifton for hosting the event yesterday and for allowing the boys the use of the golf course of which was presented brilliantly.
