Gloucestershire golfers gear up for the greens

Golfers in Gloucestershire are being encouraged to test their game from next month as the sport prepares for the 2021 competition season to start.

14 county competitions take place in Gloucestershire between May and September and the county’s Golf Union are encouraging golfers of all ages to challenge themselves and compete.

Derek Butler, Championship Chairman explains: “These events are a fantastic opportunity for players across the Gloucestershire region to challenge themselves and be recognised in the process. We have competitions for all age groups and after the recent success of our very own Joe Long, we hope to see record numbers of attendees this year.”

Long, 23 years old, is a member of Lansdown Golf Club and has played at county level in Gloucestershire since the age of 14 after attending to the 1st County Academy Selection Day in 2009 and playing off a 30 handicap.

He has recently returned from The Masters at Augusta, following his win at Royal Birkdale last August, where he became the R & A’s 2020 Amateur Champion.

Competitions this year take place include The County Seniors Championship, The 105th County Amateur Championship, The County Junior Team Championship and The West of England Under 16’s Amateur Strokeplay Championship.

You can view and enter all off this season’s competitions on our County Competitions webpage.
