With home and away fixtures against Wiltshire on consecutive weeks, Gloucestershire Seniors travelled to Tidworth Garrison to face a strong Wiltshire side in the Seniors Channel League on Thursday 26th August. The morning greensomes saw Gloucestershire unlucky to go three and a half to one and a half down and though the deficit seemed surmountable the Wiltshire team had too much firepower to let their slender lead slip away. Winning seven of the afternoon singles their home advantage was too much for Gloucestershire with Carl Gyde and Mike Jarvis the only victors and Steve Prosser and Rob Stephens gaining creditable halves.
Hopes were high for the home fixture the following week at Minchinhampton. The morning greensomes went three to two in Wiltshire's favor. The afternoon session followed a similar theme to the week before and the impressively strong Wiltshire side took the singles seven points to three again. Despite the loss, Rich Wood and Brian Mitten were unbeaten on the day which was a powerful demonstration against such quality opposition. Mike Jarvis put in two huge performances for Gloucestershire by winning his singles matches in both the home and away ties.
Gloucestershire's final match is against Gwent on 24th September.
Wiltshire now travels to Wales for their final two games and wins in both matches would see them head the division going through to the final against Cornwall, Devon or Somerset. With just one match remaining for Gloucestershire it would require monumental efforts from Gwent and Glamorgan if they were to snatch victory from Wiltshire.
