Gloucestershire Golf Union

West of England U16 Championship

On Sunday 19th September 60 of the countries best U16 golfers took to Lansdown GC to battle it out for the coveted West of England U16 title and the Ken Newman Salver.

After the mornings play Monty Holcombe (Walton Heath) fired an impressive 68 to be the halfway leader. In second after posting 69 was Toby Janes (The Kendleshire) and in third was Jake Meredith (Kingsdown) with 70. There were 3 players on 71 who were all within touching distance of the lead. This left it all to play for in the afternoon but with some light showers in the area it made play a bit more difficult.

To add to his morning round of 71 James Ilsley (Stourbridge) fired a very impressive 69 which gave him a 36 hole total of 140 which was enough to be crowned the West of England U16 Champion for 2021. In second and just a stroke behind after adding 70 to his morning round of 71 giving a total of 141 was Jenson Bull (Parkstone). In third also with a total of 141 but losing out to second on countback was Toby Janes. In fourth was the mornings leader Monty Holcombe with 146 and with a total of 147 in fifth place was Freddie Turnell (Burnham & Berrow)

Our thanks must got to everyone at Lansdown GC and their Captain, Mr Rod Thomas, for welcoming us and for their first class hospitality. The golf course was in superb condition and provided a great test of golf throughout the day. We look forward to welcoming many of the best U16 golfers in the country back in 2022.
