A bright and breezy morning welcomed our combined GGU and CAP players to Burnham & Berrow for an U12 match against Somerset
Playing the well respected Channel course over 18 holes in greensomes awaited the boys with the 2 teams well matched in handicap terms. Led off by Jack Lockwood and Will Robinson splitting the first fairway before Will Coddington and Jack Douglas followed suit and Sonny and Josh kept up the consistency while Noah and Nathan in the final group teed off like they were seasoned veterans
The opening exchanges were fairly even although Sonny and Josh were struggling and 5 down after 10 and some short game touches started to build a lead for Somerset in the top 2 matches. Meanwhile Noah and Nathan played with icy calm and took a strong lead on the Par 5 before closing out 5&4. Meanwhile the strong short games of Somerset overcame the top two group taking a 2-1 lead but Sonny and Josh decided to make it a nailbiter brining it back to dormie on their 18th, and this was only after Somerset had taken 17 with a chip in. Both teams made great play from tee to green but deft chip to virtually gimme distance gave Somerset the edge and the match
Congratulations to Chris, Dave and the Somerset side for some great golf and competition in great spirit. Huge thanks to Burnham & Berrow GC for providing a great venue and great food as well as a huge thanks to all the parents for not only getting the boys there but providing such great and much appreciated support
Its now back to the Jeff Hall junior open schedule for the boys before we host Glamorgan at Chipping Sodbury on the 16th August
