Congratulations to Ian Watkins - President of England Golf
Congratulations to Gloucestershire & Broadway Golf Clubs’ Ian Watkins who on 24th April 2024 took over as President of England Golf in the organisations Centenary year.
Ian spent 26 years with the Gloucestershire Golf Union with 15 of those years as Secretary, a term as President and 22 years as Welfare Officer. As well as these positions he also found time to be Captain and President of the Gloucestershire Captains, and continues as Joint Chairman of The Gloucestershire Golf Partnership.
Outside of Gloucestershire he is a Trustee of the England Golf Trust, Chair of the England Golf Championship Committee and former President of the South West Counties Golf Association. Not one to sit still, he was on the working party organising The England Golf Centenary Celebrations Dinner which was held on Tuesday 13th February 2024 at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
He continues as an England Golf and R & A Referee.
The honour of President of England Golf is fitting of all the tireless work that Ian has contributed to golf both in and outside of Gloucestershire over a long period of time. The Gloucestershire Golf Union wish Ian a very successful and enjoyable term as President of England Golf
