South West Schools Results

Please see below for the results for the South West Schools Championship and onward progression to the English Schools National Finals.

We had an amazing day at Forest Hills G C, even though the weather was not kind to us, especially  having had a delayed start of 40 minutes due to fog, for the start of the day!

It was really good to see that all 54 of our qualifying players made the event.

Many thanks to Gavin Butcher, general manager at Forest Hills, and his team, for their help in organising the day – Jean Hosford, Tina Roberts and Jamie Dick. Thanks to Jamie for also supporting the prize balls for the day. Jean was on hand, throughout the day, as always, buzzing around and making sure we had everything we needed. Thanks to the whole bar and catering team for excellent food and service. Thanks to the members of Forest Hills for allowing us the use of their course.

A massive thank you to Paul Gibson and his team for presenting the course in wonderful condition. The players thoroughly enjoyed it on the practice day, in the sunshine, and still enjoyed it during the main event, even though the weather conditions were very challenging. A number of people referred to the course as a little hidden gem!

As usual, we had the assistance of our brilliant referees, Bernie Powell, Allan Slater and Patrick Wood who did a great job for us. Thank you all so much for supporting the schools golf, once again.

Thanks to my right hand man, Gary Ward, for starting – always more of a challenge with a delayed start and bad weather!

Thanks to our team managers: Grant Russell,(Cornwall), Paul Cloke,(Devon),  Gavin Rusling,(Dorset) and  Stuart Wells (Somerset) for their help in organising their counties for the tournament, and stand-ins for the day – Steve Chapman (Cornwall) and Gideon Hugo (Dorset) and my other right hand man, Pete Langford (SGS College and Avon Schools). We have a great team spirit in the South West Schools region so thank you all for that!

Thank you to Glos County President, Ian Hughes, for supporting us throughout the day, and to Glos Immediate Past President, Dereck Butler, and Ian for supporting our Glos and Avon players on the course. Ian also presented the prizes.
