Gloucestershire U14's win against Worcestershire

With a winter that seems to have gone on for a year we finally get the U14's back into team action with an away visit to Little Lakes and Worcestershire

Our 2024 squad has expanded with many new faces so we had 7 players making their debut around the tricky Little lakes layout in great weather

The opening tee shots from captain Alex and debutant Oli showed no nerves splitting the first fairway although the early exchanges would go Worcestershire's way. This would be trend with the following matches of Tommy and Jack, Patrick and Josh, Billy and Will , Harry and Noah all going behind early although some strong holed putts from Billy on the 3rd and Harry on the 4th kept them in the hunt

Around the turn the top group were starting to peg things back to only 1 and Patrick made a great birdie on 10 to get one back for 3rd match although the cheeky last match sent Harrys sprinting up to check on tee shots on the demanding 11th before all splitting the fairway.

The top match made big in roads taking the 14th to square up the match before clinching it on the 18th while matches 2 and 3 just couldn't quite get enough back just coming up short. However in the last 2 matches things were changing from both being 3 down early on a great birdie on 15 took Noah and Harry 2 up while Will and Billy got themselves to all square on the 18th tee. Despite struggling off the tee all round Will pulled it out the bag on 18 following Billys  solid iron and closed out a win. So it all came down to a final match where Harry and Noah had given lots of shots but stood on 18 with a one hole lead but were again giving shots but solid drives and approaches meant Noah had a putt just over a flag length to win the hole and the match that smoothly found the bottom of the cup

The spirit and way all the boys went about the matches with lots of chat and congratulations was great credit to them all whatever the result.  Huge thanks to Luke, Kev and all the Worcestershire team for hosting us and Little Lakes GC for providing an ideal venue and great food. Also a huge thanks to all the parents for not only getting the boys there but providing such great and much appreciated support

With the season now well under way focus changes to the Jeff Hall OOM events and the boys champs at Knowle before we return to team action in July away to Somerset
