With summer seemingly here to stay our CAP squads provided an inexperienced yet enthusiastic squad to take on Somerset U12's in a series of greensomes matches at Lydney GC
Experience stood for little as our opening pairing of Will and Felix found the opening fairway, ably followed by the young pairing of Charlie Robinson and Oscar Penny. Despite illness keeping him from taking part in The CAP U16 challenge the day before Charlie Willcox along with Ethan Llewellyn brought up the third match while Harrison Cole and Ethan Barnes rounded out our team again finding the middle of the first hole
Somerset's more experienced side took some early leads with match 2 even seeing some birdies to put our boys up against it but as we reached a water break at the halfway point the 1st 3rd and 4th matches had little in them.
As match 2 reached the 13th the tricky par3 put paid to Charlie and Oscars valiant efforts but meanwhile Felix and Will began to gain the edge in match 1 and an almost holed shot in match 3 began to give Charlie and Ethan some impetus too. Soon this turned into our first point with Felx and Will wining the 15th to come up 4&3 winners while Charlie and Ethan turned a dormie position on 17 into a 3&1 win. Meanwhile Harrison and Ethan battled from dormie winning 17 to take it to the final green where some cool as ice play into the green secured a win for Somerset and halved match
The spirit and way all the boys went about the matches with lots of chat and congratulations was great credit to them all whatever the result. Huge thanks to Chris and the Somerset team for travelling to us and Lydney GC for providing an ideal venue and great food. Also a huge thanks to all the parents for not only getting the boys there but providing such great and much appreciated support
With the season now well under way focus will be on getting into many of the comps and CAP squad coaching session before our Jamboree with the GGG squad in the Autumn
