Not the best weather for English Men's Champion Club Finals!

English Men's Champion Club  -  20-22 September 2024

The Henbury Golf Club  team of Calum Mortimer, Nick Day and Mike Day qualified for this years event by winning the Winterbotham Cup at the County Finals early in the year.

The event is run by England Golf with each county in England able to put forward their best team and there were 37 teams entered.

The Henbury guys arrived at Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club near Nottingham on Friday 20 September for their practice round and found the course in good condition with very quick greens.

The first round was played on the Saturday which was a bright warm and sunny day with a slight breeze blowing.  As the day progressed the skies darkened and the rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance.  Fortunately all the games completed their rounds without the need to close the course and Henbury found themselves in 7th place with an aggregate score of +6.

That evening the heavens opened with a massive thunderstorm that dumped 30mm of rain on the course and with the threat of further storms the following day, the organising committee decided to reduce the second round to 9 holes.  This was a bit of a blow for the team as they felt they stood a better chance playing the full 18 and were only 3 shots off third place.

The morning dawned with steady rain and the occasional dowmpour.  They teed off between 9.00am and 9.40am and with the greens running slightly slower all three returned level par rounds for the 9 holes which put them into 6th place overall and just 9 shots off the winning score.  A great result in very difficult conditions, very well done team!!!

The winners were Castle Royle Golf Club from Berks, Bucks and Oxfordshire.   FULL RESULTS HERE
