FIRST TEAM V DORSET (CHANNEL LEAGUE) - STINCHCOMBE HILL GC - SUNDAY 3RD NOVEMBER
A very early, cold start for this final Channel League match of the season. We tee'd off as daybreak came over the horizon!
Two 1st team debuts – Finn Ellis (Bristol & Clifton) and Lee Hanson (Forest Hills) – both won full points on foursomes and singles matches today. How good is that!!!
Morning foursomes were a challenge which could have gone either way. However fine performances in the middle order gave the 3 – 2 lead we so desired.
Many of the afternoon singles were, quite frankly, so close, through 9 holes, that you really couldn’t split the teams! It went right down to the wire in the final match on the 18th, where we needed a half point for the match. Mike Day, one down, playing 18, duly obliged by hitting a bullet driver to the centre of the fairway, followed by a flushed iron to 8 feet, followed by his opponent conceding the hole. Mike’s half point gave us the win which ensured we retained the Channel League Championship Salver.
Winning this match today just shows the depth of players we have in the squads, as the team were missing some key players.
Massive thanks to today’s supporters:
Ian Hughes, Peter & Olive French, Derrick Buttler, Pat Righton, David Windebank, Steve Sheppard, Richard Salter, who all turned out despite the very cold weather
Stinchcombe Hill management and members for giving up their course for the rearranged match, at very short notice, and for providing excellent food and support for the day. We couldn’t have done this without you!
Course manager and team for presenting the course in such fine condition. The opposition thoroughly enjoyed the course, it’s layout and it’s condition. It is certainly a venue we would like to return to for future county matches.

Bring on 2025!
