Gloucestershire welcomes new President - Richard Salter
2025 Presidents address
Firstly I consider it a great honour, a privilege and a pleasure to be your 2025 President.
2024 was a great year for our County Teams. The First, Boys (U18) and Seniors teams all qualified for National and Regional finals. The Second, U16 and U14 teams all featured highly in their Wessex and Channel League competitions and the Second Team won The Wessex Salver. This will be a tough act to follow. The age group teams have all changed dramatically; an example at the recent U18 match with the GLCGA I recognised a large number of the U16 team from 2024! Welcome to all the new county team players from wherever you are joining us; including from other counties, graduating from The Academy, etc.
To all those playing in the teams I look forward to meeting many of you again and some of you for the first time when I am supporting at your matches through the year. I wish the players success and good enjoyable golf and all others involved with the teams; including team managers, coaches, and not forgetting the parents of the more junior players, an enjoyable and successful year.
Last year was also a good year for Gloucestershire players in National events and playing in their National teams. Hopefully this will continue in 2025, my best wishes to all those playing in these events or aspiring to.
The draws for The Presidents Cup and Seniors Scratch Foursomes have been made and it is good to see so many of the County clubs playing in these competitions. They can be great fun and hopefully all the matches will be keenly contested. I look forward to meeting all the semi-finalists on Finals Day in October.
The GGU Championships and Tournaments are all live including the NEW Handicap Championship. It would be good to see all these competitions well supported and I look forward to meeting a lot of you on the days of these competitions.
To all other golfers in the county who do not partake in any of the above but who may play in some of the many Open Competitions in the county or simply wish to play in their club competitions or with their friends I wish you all a great seasons golf.
And finally remember the first point of contact for everything such as rules or handicap queries is the GGU.
