RESULTS AND ONWARD PROGRESSION: Avon Schools Championships

RESULTS AND ONWARD PROGRESSION FOR AVON SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS WINNERS:

We had a fantastic day on Monday for the Avon Schools Championship at The Kendleshire GC. We could have been playing on a summer’s day, with bright, clear skies and extremely warm sunshine!

Many thanks to the management and members at The Kendleshire GC for allowing us the use of their course, especially Pat Murphy, Rob McCullough and Chris Boyle for allowing the fantastic entry of 120 players and supporting the needs behind the scenes; to Craig Fudge and his greenkeeping team for their incredible work on the course, presenting it so well, this early in the year; to Jason Ford, Phil Bragg and their bar and catering teams for keeping everyone well fed and watered; to Tony Mealing and his pro shop team for their support of ball prizes and the players needs.

Thanks to our district schools/colleges for allowing their students to take part in the event, our brilliant referees, Bernie, Bill and Kevin and all our starters who stepped in to help, very late in the day: Abby Gray, Maggie Jones, Jenny Garland and  Bob and Donna Sowden for the long day of support needed. Thanks also to Richard Salter for joining us for most of the day.

We had an entry of 120 players with 117 actually turning up to play on the day, representing 28 schools/colleges and 27 clubs – just fantastic! This has been our biggest event, to date, which I believe is an absolute testament to the club, as I know many juniors players enjoy playing there, even though there are some challenging holes for them. We had some very slow play, at some points, but everyone caught up well, with the final group still making it in just before sunset. The first hole proved to be a very challenging start for many !!!!!!

There were some great scores, especially from many of the mid to high handicap players and the prizes were awarded, as below, with the full results being at:
