U16's narrowly lose to Worcestershire in Friendly

Gloucestershire Under 16 Versus Worcestershire Under 16

Pitcher Oak Golf Course Redditch

We arrived at Redditch on a bright sunny and dry day only to find that we were one player short with the only reserve was already playing after being called in late the previous evening.

The course was a 9 hole with 18 tees in very good condition very dry, and running, with quick greens with subtle borrows.

After discussion between myself and Captain Felix and the Worcestershire team manager Mark, it was decided we would forfeit one foursome’s game and Felix would play a three-ball match in the afternoon.

The morning foursomes were played in good spirit but unfortunately results did not go our way with one game being a walkover, we were down 4-1 at lunch.

A light lunch of sandwiches and chips was enjoyed by all we had a team talk.

The afternoon singles were led by Jack Lockwood  with his teeth gritted he played some beautiful golf which resulted in a fine 5/3 victory.

The next two games for Louis Brain and Fergus Mort were against the two strongest of the Worcestershire players and unfortunately, we lost them both Luis took Harry to the last hole with Fergus losing 4/3.

The Ross on Wye twins Billy and Oliver Walker were both down after 9 holes but fought back to win Billy 3/2 and Oli by 1 hole.

Alfie Painter, newly out of the academy had a great game and was rewarded with a 1-hole victory.

Alex Linton played well but had several bad bounces which did not help his luck and he finally succumbed losing 4/3.

Jack Douglas brought up the rear of the single playing some super golf, but unfortunately lost on the last hole.

The final match was the 3 ball with Captain Felix taking on two of the Worcestershire players Tom Jurkowski and Ewan Clarke. Felix played some beautiful golf. He was never down beating Ewan 5/4. Tom was a more difficult task taking Felix to the last hole where a fine putt ensured victory for Felix.

The game was played in great spirit from both sides followed by a nice meal. Our thanks must go Worcestershire management team of Kevin and Mark, and to the staff of Pitcher Oak for looking after us well and their members for allowing us the use of their course.
