With the bright spring weather taking a turn for the worst it looked like we were in for another drowning at Cirencester GC but the strong winds moving things on and the lads gathered together on the putting green to announce the parings
Into the strong cross winds Alfie and Theo led the teams out with the CAP boys making an impression finding more of the tricky first fairway and taking some early leads
As they began to turn with the wind the sun came out and matches settled into slim leads with the Par 3 11th showing the test of the weather with only one player able to find the green from the tee although some great up and downs made from the right bunker and especially tricky chip executed from the bare turf on the left
Things stayed tight with all the matches going into the new loop with Alfie taking for the first point with a solid putt on 17 while Tommy and Harry managed to force things down the 18th before Josh and Jack held their nerve to take a point for the Academy
Oli and Harvey kept up the early advantage playing the conditions well before getting a further point on the 15th before the chattiest match was taken down 18 after Kohan and Will kept things alive on 17 but Charlie and Oscar took another point on 18 for the Academy. With Henry and Alex up against a dovetailing paring in Teddy and Ben who took a further point on 16 for the academy it was all down to the final match
All square on the 18th tee the boys all found good positions on the fairway leading to strong approaches from all. With Noah only a few feet left for par Ethan channelled Justin Rose like putting to go millimetres from the hole from over 30 feet to halve his and Finley’s match with James and Noah and tip the balance to the Academy 3.5 to 2.5
As always all the lads played in great spirit with the U14s dealing well with giving in some cases lots of shots for possibly the first time while the CAP squad showed little nerves despite the lack of experience to gain the edge
A big thanks you to James, Rich, Emma and everyone and Cirencester GC for being such good hosts again as always and especially to all the parents for getting the boys there and supporting them so well
Its now onto the busy period with the GGU U16s Champs, Jeff Hall junior opens and training sessions all across the county for the boys to get their teeth into
