The Seniors played their second Channel League match is as many weeks when the took on Gwent at The Kendleshire. Another dry warm day proved to be just the tonic for the Gloucestershire boys in the morning Greensomes. It didn’t start well with the top match losing on the last green but the reliable pair of Barwood and Rogers brought home a 2&1 win before another mercurial performance from Clink and Gravelle saw a comfortable 3&2 victory. Guy Whittern, trying to break his duck, and Chris Newman halved their match but when Steve Yorke and Ken Madden won 2up, Gloucestershire led by 3.5 to 1.5 at lunchtime.
In the afternoon the team was led away by Matt Stanford who played a current Welsh international in Chris Dinsdale. A high quality match ensued with Matt managing to win 1 up to get us off to a good start. However, when Nick Barwood, Tim Rogers and Guy Whittern lost the next three games the match looked to be in a balance. Normal service was resumed when Dave Law won 3&2 and then large wins for Chris Newman, Nigel Gravelle, Tim Clink and Steve Yorke gave the Team the second league win of the season. Unfortunately, Ken Madden couldn’t put the cherry on top of the cake but an excellent result and once again everyone who played contributed something to the team score.
Many thanks to The Kendleshire, which was in excellent condition, for their warm welcome.
