U18's WIN against GLCGA Ladies at Puckrup Hall GC

The team arrived in good spirits for their 2nd warm up match of the season against the County Ladies at Puckrup Hall with the boys keen to avenge the 7.5 v 0.5 drubbing that they suffered at the hand of the Ladies last year at Filton.

We received a very warm welcome from Carole Greenup (the Ladies Captain) and her team and the format for day was Greensomes with 10 players/team, so 5 games being played in total. Thankfully we were blessed with some good weather for the event despite the forecast and even though it was carry only, the course stood up very well.

With the pairings sorted, Richard Salter (GGU County President) started the boys and Pat Righton (GLCGA President) started the girls with 2 starters needed because the tees were some 80 yards apart!

All the games were very closely matched after 8 holes with no more than a hole difference in any of the games being played but in the 1st game out, Edison Butler (our Captain on the day) and Oscar Linton went on a charge from the 9th and quickly built up a healthy lead eventually running out 5 & 3 winners against the very experienced Jo Hodge who was partnered by Amber Thorp, a debutant for the Ladies. As for the other 4 games, they were all extremely close with holes being traded back & forth and all 4 went to the final green for a result. The 2nd pairing of Charlie Ford & Felix Chippendale secured a well-earned half against Sam Round and Taylor Hodgson, with Jack Lockwood and Ernie Elford securing a 1 hole victory against Neve Jeffrey & Courtney Boyes in the 3rd game. In the 4th game it was the same scoreline for Riley Wood & Lucas Searle who made an amazing up and down on the 18th to secure a win over Rosie Boyle & Frances Sullivan. In the final game, James Sayce & Tom Chapman were 2 up with 3 to play and after losing the 16th, they held on for a very good win on the 18th, so the overall match score was 4.5 v 0.5 to the U18s.

The boys feasted on Sandwiches & Chips after the match and both Captains said a few words to thank each team to their participation and for playing the game with such good sportsmanship. Our thanks go to Carole for organising such a good day and to Puckrup Hall and its members for allowing us the use of the course.

MATCH RESULTS

Special thanks go to both Richard & Pat for starting and supporting the teams on the day and also to all the parents who stayed to support as well.

Our first major event of the season is the Midland 4 Counties which is being played at Moor Hall GC in Warwickshire on the 7/8 April and the 8 man team for this event will be selected in w/b 23rd March.
